What makes you happy…and why?

Have you ever sat down with yourself and thought about what things make you really happy?  And then made a list of why they make you happy?  I keep hearing about how energy attracts energy, and when you are in a good place, good things come your way.  And when you are in a bad place, bad things come your way.  I can attest to this big time!

I love the story about how my website came to be.  I was, (and still am) working at Anthropologie, and I work with a lot of young women.  (Pretty much, everyone is younger than me)!  The girls that I work with are incredibly smart, have a great work ethic and all go to incredible schools in San Diego.  Now let’s switch gears for a second.

A friend of mine had purchased a dress from our store, but her husband didn’t love it, so she wanted to exchange it for a different one.  We had been hanging out that morning, and I suggested that I run to the store and see if we still have the dress she wanted in stock.  She insisted that I NOT do that on my day off, but I insisted that I DO.   I went in, on my day off, and one of the girls that I work with was at the cash register.  As soon as she saw me, she lifted her hand in the air to high five me because she had just graduated from college. She was pumped!   We were both pumped!  Then I asked her what she was going to do now that she was a college grad and whether or not she would be leaving Anthro? She told me she was interested in technology “stuff”. I’m sure she told me exactly, but I have no idea – anything tech goes right over my head!  Immediately my brain went to the fact that I was getting trained as a Life Coach, and I needed a website but I had NO idea how to build one.  I asked her if she could develop a website for me and she said that she hadn’t done one yet, but it would be right up her alley.  We talked after work and next thing I knew, I hired her (#bossbitch) to build my site.  And everything that I asked her to do for the site, she did perfectly.

Here’s what I’ll never forget about leaving the store that day.  I sat at a red light, and thought about how wild it is that the universe conspired to make that meeting happen.  I ran into Megan that afternoon, while doing something nice for a friend, and now I have my kicka** website!  What made it possible for us to even talk while she was working at the cash register?  Normally there’s a long line of customers, but at this particular moment, it was just the two of us.  Why was she in that particular day, and what made her tell me she had just graduated?  What made me ask her if she could build my site?  It’s energy.  Pure and simple people. It’s the greatest thing ever!

The funny thing is, I had just signed up for the course, I had no idea how long it would take me to get my certification (they say most people take up to a year), but I knew in my heart that this was my passion and I was ready to make it happen!  They also say to take your time, do your research, and make sure you have everything in order before building your site. But that didn’t sit with me. I know who I am, and what I want, so I went for it.  There are no coincidences.

On the flip side, have you asked yourself why you are sad, or in pain, and what’s going wrong with your life?  And then asked yourself, why?  What’s not working and giving you unnecessary stress in your life?  I’ve asked myself this question many times, and I always come back to the same answer. I want, what I want, when I want it. I don’t like to wait on other people.  It took me a while to realize that other people aren’t on MY timeline.   Therefore, in order for me to get out of my own way, I needed to make a change.  I didn’t lower my expectations, but I changed up my story and how I would get to where I wanted to go.  I also learned that the only person I can rely on, is myself.

What’s helped me the most when it comes to understanding who I am and what I want out of life, are starting my day with a routine. I begin with an intense work out and then do a very mellow meditation.  I need the initial rush of a cardio workout to get out of my own head, and then, I need to meditate or just be quiet for at least 20 minutes so I can get back in my head.  In the end, we can only rely on ourselves to get what we want.  Nobody else can tell us how to get there, or get us there! You got this!  We got this.

Let’s put out that good energy so it bounces back all over us.

 Here’s to a mindful and productive 2022:)
