Yellow…

Today I want talk about something that blows my brains!  I’m going to use this in an upcoming speech this coming Monday, but since most of you won’t hear it, here goes.  Years ago, I took a Synchro destiny workshop with Dr. Deepak Chopra at his center in La Jolla many years ago.  It was a small intimate group of about 12 people, and it was intense.  What do I mean?  Deepak is incredibly brilliant and I found that during most of the learning sessions, I wasn’t following.  I was younger than most of the other people in the group, I couldn’t sit still long enough to meditate for 5 minutes, let alone 30…and there were some heavy hitters in this group that somewhat freaked me out because I was a fan girl!  But mostly, you really had to be in touch with your energy to take in these messages, and I was far from it at the time.

Throughout the course, Deepak kept having one consistent message: There are no coincidences.  He didn’t say, “Everything happens for a reason”, he said, “There are NO coincidences”.  And then he gave this example that I will never forget.  He kept talking about how the Universe speaks to us every day.  And the example he used, was the color yellow.  Suppose you wake up and you see someone riding a bright yellow bike out of your window, that you’ve never noticed before.  And then you’re driving to work and you notice a piece of bright yellow luggage in the back of another car that you pass on the freeway.  And throughout the day, you see yellow.  Okay, so, here is where I’m a complete knucklehead.  I thought that something BIG would happen with yellow that afternoon.  What do I know?  It took me years to understand the deeper meaning in his message.  What Deepak was saying, was that we need to be open and live in the present.  If we’re thinking about something that we screwed up that morning, or we’re stressed about something that could happen later that night, we are not living in the present.  But if we do live in the present, and focus on the moment, we start to see and accept the signs all around us.  He talked about signs being anything from colors to numbers to animals – they could be anything.  But in order to see them, we need be open to them. And to be open, we need to be present.

Fast forward through a long life and career, I started working at Anthropologie as it says in my bio.  This is a completely true story – and one that just hit me over the head last night while I was preparing for my upcoming talk.  I got a job in retail with no prior experience.  I was like a bull in a china shop and had no idea what I was doing, but I was having fun.  After all, retail isn’t rocket science – it should be fun!  And the first week that I was there, I was working in the fitting room (which became home to me), and hanging on the stylist rack, was a bright yellow leather moto jacket.  I had a customer come in and try on several dresses for Easter and I suggested that she try on the yellow jacket.  She not only tried it on, she purchased it along with several dresses and some jewelry.  What I didn’t know at the time, was that they were trying for quite a while to sell that jacket, to no avail…and within my first few shifts, I sold it.  Imagine my aha moment last night while I was putting this all together – it was a bright yellow leather jacket people!  How often do we come across a yellow leather jacket? I don’t know about you, but for me that answer is NEVER!  And why is this a sign?  It’s a sign because the job at Anthro has given me wings and an understanding of how much I love working with women and how much they enjoy working with me.  This was a perfect stepping stone that led me into Jay Shetty Life Coaching.  I’ve honestly never felt happier doing what I’m doing in my life.  Helping people, especially young adult women, gives me more joy than anything I’ve done in my career.  I’ve always worked with women, but now to have that one to one personal impact is priceless.

I hope you read this and really start to live in the moment.  Stop looking backwards at what could have been and stop worrying about what hasn’t even happened.  All we have is now!  We can create impact now.

 Yellow is the word bird!!
